The Airforce Museum

Since moving to Dayton one of the things that everyone told us we needed to see was the Airforce museum. It is awesome. Three giant hangers full of every kind of lifesize airplane you can imagine from the Wright brothers first plane up to the big giant transport planes whose wings go from one side of the hanger to the other. And of course they have my favorite plane from when I was a kid, the SR-71 Blackbird - full size and in all of it's glory. The planes are arranged chronilogically by the wars and campaigns they were used in. We have only made it halfway through world war II after two visits with the kids.

Here is a picture of Luke and Jacob by what they call the "Shark Mouth" plane. This is also a big favorite of thiers because it has lots of guns on it. Jacob said "dad this plane would be really hard to defeat because it has so many guns". Luke felt it would be hard to defeat because it could bit the other planes. I decided not to try and talk him out of that logic.

The SR-71 in all of it's glory. I can now check that childhood fantasy off of my list.

Here is a picture inside of the bomb bay of a one of the huge bombers that I can't remember the name of.

 Jacob and Luke were in heaven. A lot of the old WWII airplanes bear a strange resemblance to a lot of the starwars ships.
